Roof Refurbishment Project – Completed by Prestige Roof

When we surveyed this Norfolk bungalow, the homeowner had concerns about leaks and the age of the roof. Once we lifted the tiles, the full extent of the problems became clear:

• Rotten battens that had lost their strength

• Original felt that had perished and torn away

• Heavy moss holding moisture and blocking water channels

• Gaps beneath tiles where water could travel straight into the loft

At this stage, patch repairs would not have been a long-term solution. A full strip and refurbishment was the most cost-effective and safest way to protect the property.

With safe scaffolding in place, our roofing team carefully stripped the roof back and rebuilt it to current standards:

1. Removed all tiles, rotten battens and failed felt.

2. Checked the rafters and repaired any weakened areas.

3. Installed breathable felt to keep the roof watertight while allowing moisture to escape.

4. Fitted new treated battens across the entire roof.

5. Prepared and updated leadwork around the chimney stacks.

This stage transformed a tired, failing roof into a clean, modern, fully protected structure ready for tiling.

Once the structure was sound and protected, we completed the final roofing works:

• Reinstated the tiles with correct gauge and alignment

• Installed new leadwork around both chimneys

• Fitted a modern dry ridge system for better ventilation and durability

• Checked all water channels and laps for proper drainage

• Carried out a final inspection and clean-down before handover

The finished roof is now:

• Fully weatherproof

• Structurally secure

• Ventilated to modern standards

• Protected against future leaks and damp

• Finished with a neat, uniform appearance
